Woman Stalked In Bukit Jalil Mall Fitting Room After Man Poses As Friend

Date:

A 30-year-old woman, identified as Ms Tung, was left shaken after being stalked and harassed by an unidentified man while using a fitting room at a clothing boutique in a Bukit Jalil shopping mall. The unsettling incident, which occurred on 5 March at approximately 1.00 pm, has raised serious concerns regarding retail security protocols after the suspect successfully deceived store employees to gain access to the private cubicle area.

According to a report by Harian Metro, Ms Tung was shopping alone when she noticed the curtain of her fitting room being pulled back from the outside on three separate occasions. Initially assuming it was a genuine mistake by a staff member, she shouted to inform them that the room was occupied. However, upon exiting the cubicle, she was confronted by a man in his 40s standing in close proximity, who quickly fled after pretending to inquire about an item with the store attendants.

The victim expressed shock and disappointment after discovering that the three female employees on duty had permitted the man to enter the women’s-only section. When questioned, the staff claimed the suspect had masqueraded as Ms Tung’s friend, leading them to believe he was accompanying her. Disturbed by the possibility of being filmed or watched, the victim immediately requested CCTV footage from the management and filed a formal police report to ensure the perpetrator is apprehended.

In a statement addressing the incident, the boutique management confirmed that a police report has been lodged and the relevant surveillance footage has been handed over to the authorities. While expressing regret over the situation, a spokesperson noted the inherent difficulty in identifying individuals who falsely claim to be family members or partners of customers. The management reaffirmed their commitment to customer safety and stated they are providing regular updates to the victim as the investigation progresses.

Cheras District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Ravinder Singh, confirmed that the authorities have received the report and are actively tracking the suspect. The case is currently being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code for words or gestures intended to insult the modesty of a person. Ms Tung has urged all retail businesses to prioritise female privacy and implement stricter measures to prevent similar voyeurism or harassment cases in the future.
