Sarawak Government Declares Additional Public Holiday For Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2026

Date:

The Sarawak Government has officially declared an additional public holiday in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri 1447H celebrations.

This announcement, released by the Sarawak State Secretary’s Office today, aims to provide citizens with an extended break depending on the official sighting of the moon and the subsequent start date of the festive period.

According to the official statement from the Department of the Premier of Sarawak, the specific date for the additional holiday is contingent upon when 1 Syawal falls. Should the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri be observed on Friday, 20 March 2026, the state government has designated Monday, 23 March 2026, as the additional public holiday for the entire state.

Conversely, if the first day of the celebrations falls on Saturday, 21 March 2026, the additional public holiday will instead be observed earlier on Friday, 20 March 2026. This strategic scheduling ensures that Sarawakians are granted a comprehensive holiday period regardless of the lunar calendar’s outcome, facilitating smoother travel and family reunion plans.

The announcement was issued from Wisma Bapa Malaysia in Petra Jaya, Kuching, and takes effect immediately for all public and private sectors within the state. Residents are advised to stay tuned to official government channels for the formal announcement of the 1 Syawal date by the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal to confirm which of the two holiday scenarios will be enacted.
