A 34-year-old man has been taken into police custody in Indramayu, Indonesia, following allegations of repeated sexual assault against his twin daughters. The suspect, identified by the initials MJ, is believed to have committed these acts since the victims were 12 years old. According to reports from Kompas.com, the abuse continued until the twins reached their current age of 15, marking a harrowing three-year period of exploitation within the family home.
Indramayu Police Chief Mochamad Fajar Gemilang stated that the suspect sought to justify his actions by citing loneliness, as his wife is currently working abroad as a migrant worker in China. During a press conference on Friday, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crimes, claiming that his daughters bore a striking resemblance to their mother. He allegedly forced the teenagers to “replace the role” of his absent wife while she was away earning a living for the family.
Investigations into the case revealed that both 15-year-old victims had attempted to resist their father’s advances on multiple occasions. However, they were silenced by death threats, with the suspect allegedly vowing to kill them if they refused to comply with his demands. The repeated abuse reportedly began while the girls were still in primary school, creating a long-term environment of fear and coercion that only came to light recently.
The traumatic ordeal was eventually uncovered after the sisters found the courage to disclose the situation to their mother and other family members. This information was subsequently relayed to the authorities, leading to a swift investigation and the successful apprehension of the suspect. MJ, who was employed as a security guard at a local bank, is currently being remanded to assist with further legal proceedings and detailed documentation of the case.
The suspect faces charges under the Indonesian Penal Code, specifically Article 473 paragraph (9) of the KUHPidana. If convicted, he faces a baseline prison sentence of up to 12 years; however, this penalty may be increased by an additional one-third because the crimes were perpetrated against his own biological children. Police authorities have guaranteed that the welfare and protection of the victims will remain the top priority throughout the ongoing investigation and subsequent trial.
