Company Director Fined RM100,000 For Providing False Information On Subsidised Cooking Oil

Date:

The Batu Pahat Sessions Court has imposed a fine of RM100,000 on a company director after she pleaded guilty to submitting fraudulent data regarding the sale of subsidised packet cooking oil. The local woman, who is in her 70s, entered her plea on Thursday before Judge Tuan Osman Effendi Mohd Shalleh. This legal action follows a strict enforcement drive aimed at curbing the misappropriation of government-funded essential goods within the state of Johor.

According to Johor Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Director, Lilis Saslinda Pornomo, the discrepancies were uncovered during a specialized inspection dubbed Op Tiris on 13 August 2024. The operation was a collaborative effort between the Batu Pahat KPDN enforcement branch and the National Audit Department. Investigators targeted a licensed wholesaler and packer situated within the Batu Pahat district to verify their operational compliance and stock records.

Detailed examinations revealed that the company’s internal documentation and stock declarations were highly suspicious and failed to align with the retail chain information provided. Consequently, authorities seized a total of 29,590 kilograms of cooking oil, which carried an estimated market value of RM73,975. The director was subsequently charged under Section 8(4) of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for the suspected offence of providing false information to the ministry.

The Johor KPDN has emphasised that this successful prosecution highlights the ministry’s unwavering commitment to eradicating the leakage of controlled items and subsidies. By taking firm action against such malpractice, the government aims to ensure that subsidised resources effectively reach the intended target groups rather than being exploited for illicit gain. This case serves as a stern warning to other industry players to maintain transparent and accurate reporting of their inventory.

In an effort to further combat similar activities, the ministry is urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected misappropriation of controlled goods. Citizens can provide information through various channels, including the WhatsApp hotline at 019-848 8000, the e-aduan portal, or the official KPDN Call Centre at 1-800-886-800. Additionally, the Ez ADU KPDN mobile application remains available for those wishing to lodge complaints directly to the enforcement authorities.
