Police Arrest 22-Year-Old Man Over Alleged Assault On Pregnant Wife In Melaka

Date:

A 22-year-old man has been taken into police custody following allegations that he assaulted his pregnant wife at a residence located in Taman Seri Kemendor, Jasin in Melaka. The arrest was executed at approximately 11:00 AM on Thursday by a specialised team of officers and personnel from the D8 and D11 units of the Melaka Contingent Police Headquarters (IPK) Criminal Investigation Department. This development follows a high-profile search for a suspect linked to a recent domestic violence incident reported within the state.

Melaka Tengah District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit, confirmed the arrest in a formal statement released tonight. The authorities have categorised the investigation under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, read together with Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act 1994. These legal provisions are specifically designed to address and penalise acts of violence committed within a domestic setting, ensuring protection for vulnerable family members.

The arrest comes after widespread media reports on Tuesday indicating that police were actively hunting a man believed to have attacked his pregnant spouse. The previous incident allegedly occurred on Sunday at a karaoke centre situated in Kota Shahbandar. Following the victim’s report, law enforcement agencies intensified their efforts to locate the individual involved, leading to the successful operation conducted by the IPK Melaka units earlier this morning.

ACP Christopher Patit has urged members of the public who possess any relevant information concerning this case to come forward and assist the authorities. Witnesses or individuals with knowledge of the event are encouraged to channel their information to the Melaka Tengah District Police Headquarters (IPD) or the nearest police station. Maintaining a clear line of communication with the community remains a vital component of the ongoing investigative process to ensure all facts are accurately gathered.

Furthermore, the police have issued a stern advisory to the public, cautioning against the spread of unverified claims or speculation regarding the case. Such actions are discouraged as they have the potential to interfere with the integrity of the official investigation. As the legal proceedings move forward, the authorities remain committed to upholding the law and ensuring justice is served for the victim involved in this distressing domestic dispute.
