Prime Minister Anwar Warns Ceasefire Without Guarantees Will Perpetuate Cycle Of Violence

Date:

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has cautioned that any ceasefire initiatives lacking robust and definitive guarantees will inevitably lead to a recurrence of the cycle of violence. Reflecting on past international efforts, the Prime Minister noted that previous experiences demonstrate how temporary truces without solid assurances fail to achieve sustainable peace. He highlighted the current devastating situations in Gaza and Lebanon as primary examples of why peace processes must be anchored in justice, accountability, and a genuine long-term commitment.

These remarks were shared via a social media post today following a significant telephone discussion between Anwar and the Iranian President, Masoud Pezeshkian. The two leaders engaged in a detailed conversation regarding the intensifying conflict across the Middle East. During the exchange, President Pezeshkian conveyed his profound gratitude for Malaysia’s unwavering and vocal stance against military strikes conducted on Iranian territory. He specifically commended the Prime Minister’s firm positions in condemning what he described as illegal and oppressive aggression against his nation.

Malaysia has officially reiterated its strong condemnation of the military strikes carried out by Israel, pointing out that such actions were undertaken with support from the United States. Anwar expressed his deep sympathy and offered condolences to the Iranian people following the loss of their top leadership, military personnel, and numerous innocent civilians, including children. He further extended Malaysia’s concern for other nations within the Gulf region that have found themselves caught in the crossfire of the rapidly escalating regional tensions.

The Prime Minister maintained that establishing a genuine and enduring peace in the Middle East necessitates a comprehensive strategy that prioritises the restoration of human dignity. He argued that simply halting hostilities is insufficient without a thorough resolution that ensures the safety and security of every party involved. Anwar emphasised that the international community must move beyond superficial agreements to address the root causes of the instability if the region is to see a future free from constant warfare.

In a concluding show of diplomatic support, Malaysia pledged to maintain its solidarity with Iran and other affected countries in the region. The Prime Minister’s statements underscore Malaysia’s active role in Middle Eastern diplomacy and its preference for a values-based approach to international relations. By advocating for a resolution rooted in human rights and institutional accountability, the Malaysian government continues to push for a global framework that prevents the repeated failure of temporary ceasefires.
