A harrowing dashcam video has gone viral across social media, capturing the moment a passenger car slammed into a broken-down lorry on an unlit stretch of road. The footage, which has garnered thousands of views, highlights the extreme dangers of heavy vehicles being left unattended without proper safety protocols. The video shows the car traveling at a steady speed of 80 to 90 km/h in near-total darkness when it suddenly encounters a stationary lorry parked on the shoulder. Crucially, the rear portion of the lorry was still protruding into the active driving lane, and with no hazard lights or reflective markers visible, the driver had no time to swerve. The resulting impact completely smashed half the side of the vehicle, leaving the driver lucky to have survived the crash.

As the video circulated, local netizens began sharing disturbing background information regarding the stationary vehicle, suggesting this was not the first accident involving this specific lorry. According to several commenters, another lorry had reportedly rammed into the same broken-down vehicle earlier. It is alleged that while the owner of the broken-down lorry had initially placed a warning cone after that first mishap, the site was subsequently left unattended and the warning signs were not maintained. This negligence effectively turned the protruding vehicle into a “death trap” for subsequent motorists.
The legal and insurance implications of the crash are now being scrutinized, as Malaysian road regulations strictly require broken-down vehicles to display a warning triangle at a minimum distance of 45 meters to alert oncoming traffic. Legal experts note that because the vehicle owner failed to ensure these safety measures remained in place—especially after a prior accident had already occurred—they could be held liable for significant negligence. The victim may now be eligible to file a third-party insurance claim against the lorry owner’s policy for vehicle repairs and any medical expenses incurred.
The viral footage has prompted a wave of criticism against heavy vehicle operators who abandon their vehicles on public roads without adequate lighting.
Public reaction has been swift, with many calling for the authorities to investigate the lorry owner for failing to secure the scene of a breakdown. Motorists are being reminded to use high beams where appropriate on unlit roads and to remain extra vigilant for stationary obstacles that may not be properly marked. The damaged car remains a stark reminder of how quickly a routine drive can turn into a life-threatening emergency due to a lack of basic road safety compliance.
