Soldier In Coma, Six Others Injured After Alleged Assault At Bentong Military Camp

Date:

A soldier has been left in a coma while six others were injured after allegedly being assaulted in an incident at the 25th Battalion Royal Malay Regiment (RAMD) camp.

Bentong district police chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar said police received a report on the incident at 8.45am on Tuesday from the father of one of the victims.

He said the incident is believed to have taken place around 8pm on Monday within the camp premises.

Preliminary investigations found that a suspect, a corporal in the armed forces, is believed to have been involved in the assault, which included punching, kicking and hitting the victims on various parts of the body.

Police also clarified that all victims, aged between 19 and 22, are serving military personnel and not trainees as previously reported.

One victim, aged 24, is in critical condition and remains unconscious while receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Hospital Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah in Temerloh.

Other injured personnel have been sent to Bentong Hospital for further medical examination.

Zaiham said the suspect, a 37-year-old corporal, was arrested at 2.30pm on Tuesday to assist investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code, and a four-day remand order has been obtained from April 1 to April 4.

Police have urged the public not to speculate on the case, stressing that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the actual cause of the incident.
