Two Foreign Men Nabbed With RM1.57 Million Worth Of Drugs In Teluk Melano Raid

Date:

Two foreign men have been arrested with drugs worth an estimated RM1.57 million in a police operation along Jalan Kilometer 23, Teluk Melano, Lundu, Sarawak on Tuesday.

Lundu district police chief Superintendent Sudirman Kram said the raid, conducted at about 9.50am, was carried out following intelligence gathered by the 11th Battalion of the General Operations Force (GOF) Sarawak Brigade in collaboration with the Lundu District Police Headquarters.

He said both suspects, aged 25 and 36, did not possess valid travel documents.

“Further inspection of the vehicle led to the discovery and seizure of 500 plastic packets containing vape cartridges suspected to be cannabis liquid, weighing about 1,250 grammes,” he said.

Police also seized 25 transparent plastic packages containing crystal substances suspected to be methamphetamine weighing 25 kilogrammes, as well as another three packets containing similar substances weighing three kilogrammes.

The total value of the seized drugs is estimated at RM1,575,000.

Preliminary investigations suggest the drugs were intended to be smuggled into a neighbouring country.

Initial urine screening showed both suspects tested negative for drugs, and neither had prior criminal records.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and whipping of no less than 12 strokes if convicted.

Both suspects have been remanded for seven days from April 2 to April 8 to assist investigations.

Police said the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department is actively tracking down other suspects believed to be involved in the syndicate.

Authorities stressed that the operation was the result of continuous intelligence work and public cooperation, adding that police will not compromise with those involved in drug trafficking activities.

Members of the public with information on drug-related activities are urged to contact the JSJN hotline at 012-2087222.
