Chinese Fraud Suspect Detained In Phuket Following Embassy Request

Date:

Immigration police in Phuket have detained a Chinese man wanted in connection with a fraud case after receiving a request from the Chinese Embassy in Thailand to assist in locating and arresting the suspect.

The 32-year-old suspect, identified as Wang, was believed to have been hiding in Phuket after allegedly fleeing China. Authorities later tracked him down to a condominium in Patong, Kathu district, where he was taken into custody.

According to Chinese officials, Wang is wanted under a contract fraud warrant issued by the Ministry of Public Security in Xinmin District, Shenyang, Liaoning province.

Investigations in China allege that Wang advertised billiard equipment for sale, claiming to have stock available, and used shipping videos and false information to convince more than 30 victims to enter contracts and transfer payments.

After receiving the funds, he allegedly failed to deliver the goods, avoided communication with buyers, and eventually fled the country. Chinese authorities estimate losses exceeding 1 million yuan.

Thai immigration checks revealed that Wang had entered Thailand on a tourist visa and his permitted stay had not yet expired.

However, officials moved to revoke his permission to remain in the country after confirming he was a foreign national wanted under an overseas arrest warrant.

Police later tracked him to the Patong condominium and detained him after confirming his identity during questioning. He was then taken to Phuket Immigration for processing and deportation proceedings.

Authorities also confirmed that another operation by Immigration Division 3 is ongoing in a separate case involving a Chinese suspect wanted for fraud linked to an alleged investment scam involving a durian orchard project.
