Seven Dismembered Bodies Found Along Highway In Mexico Amid Gang Violence

Date:

Police in Mexico have discovered the dismembered remains of seven people abandoned along a major highway in Guerrero state, in what authorities believe is linked to ongoing gang violence in the region.

The gruesome find was made on Tuesday afternoon along the Tlalpa–Olinalá highway in the Montaña region, near the crossroads in Cualác, where residents reportedly alerted authorities after spotting armed men leaving suspicious items by the roadside.

According to local reports, the remains were found alongside black plastic containers and an aluminium pot, which investigators believe may have been used to transport the bodies.

Following the discovery, personnel from the Guerrero State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), along with ministerial police and forensic experts, were deployed to the scene to recover the remains and begin investigations.

Authorities said the area has long been affected by violent criminal activity, with multiple armed groups believed to be operating in Guerrero, a state that has struggled with high levels of cartel-related violence.

Security analysts estimate that several rival gangs, including Los Tlacos, Los Ardillos and Los Rojos, are active in the region and are engaged in ongoing territorial disputes, particularly over areas linked to drug cultivation such as marijuana and opium poppy fields.

Guerrero has consistently recorded one of the highest homicide rates in Mexico, with criminal organisations accused of driving widespread extortion, kidnapping and clashes over control of key trafficking routes.

Local human rights groups have also warned that rural communities in the Montaña region are increasingly vulnerable, with many residents facing threats, displacement and limited access to government support or economic opportunities.

Authorities have launched a full investigation into the incident, which is the latest in a series of violent discoveries highlighting the continuing security challenges in parts of southern Mexico.
