Husband And Wife Among Three Killed In Gemas Baharu Multi-Vehicle Crash

Date:

A married couple was among three people killed in a horrific accident involving a van, a trailer and a cargo lorry along Kilometre 210 of the Johor Bahru–Seremban Road near the Taman Golden Hill junction in Gemas Baharu on Thursday.

The fatal crash occurred at about 3.45pm and involved multiple vehicles travelling along the busy stretch of road, according to Segamat district police chief Superintendent Mohd Jumazanzahir Chek Ismail.

He said the incident began when a van driven by a local man in his 70s, carrying four passengers aged between 20 and 60, was turning into the Taman Golden Hill junction from Segamat.

The van was then struck at its rear left side by a trailer driven by a man in his 20s who was travelling behind it. The impact caused the van to veer into the opposite lane.

It was then hit head-on by a cargo lorry driven by a man in his 30s, resulting in a second and more severe collision.

Three occupants of the van, including the driver, were confirmed dead at the scene due to severe injuries. Two other passengers sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment, while the drivers of the trailer and lorry escaped unhurt.

Police have classified the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and investigations are ongoing. Authorities are also urging eyewitnesses to come forward to assist with the probe.

Johor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said emergency teams from Segamat, Bandar Baru Segamat and Gemas stations were deployed after receiving a distress call at 4.24pm. Rescue and clearing operations were fully completed by 5.35pm.
