15 Students And Three Wardens Escape Hostel Blaze In Johor

A total of 15 students and three wardens experienced moments of panic after a fire broke out at the Maahad Tahfiz Sains Al-Insyiriah hostel in Taman Tampoi Utama on Thursday afternoon.

Johor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Larkin station operations commander Senior Fire Officer I Amimuzamam Aini said emergency services received a distress call at 4.35pm regarding the incident.

A total of 20 firefighters, assisted by personnel from BBP Kempas, were deployed to the scene along with one Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), two Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT) units and two Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicles.

He said the fire involved a permanent three-storey building, with the blaze breaking out on the third floor which served as accommodation for students and teachers.

“All 15 students and three wardens managed to evacuate safely before the Fire and Rescue Department arrived,” he said in a statement.

He added that the fire had caused an estimated 50 per cent damage to the structure, with firefighting operations successfully brought under control and completed at 6.09pm.
