A 13-year-old girl was found unconscious before being confirmed dead at a residence in Sungai Buloh on Wednesday.
Sungai Buloh district police chief Superintendent Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said authorities received information regarding the incident at approximately 6.27pm.
He said medical officers from Sungai Buloh Hospital who arrived at the scene confirmed that the victim, aged 13 years and two months, had died on the spot.
The body was later transported to the Forensic Department of Sungai Buloh Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
Following initial investigations, police have opened a case under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
Mohd Hafiz said three witnesses have been recorded to assist in the investigation.
He explained that the provision covers offences involving negligence or exposure of a child under one’s care to physical or emotional harm, which carries penalties of a fine not exceeding RM50,000, imprisonment of up to 20 years, or both if convicted.
He also urged the public to avoid speculation that could interfere with ongoing investigations.
