China Groom Turns Heads After Leading Wedding With Nine Septic Tank Trucks

Date:

A man in China has drawn widespread attention after using nine septic tank trucks as part of his wedding convoy, in what is believed to be the first ceremony of its kind in the country.

The groom, identified as Pan Haonan, staged the unusual celebration on March 28 in Suixi County, Anhui province, his hometown, with the convoy reportedly going viral on social media and amassing millions of views and thousands of reactions online.

According to local reports, Pan comes from a family involved in the sewage removal and transportation business. His father has been working in the industry in Zhejiang province for more than two decades, while Pan joined the family business in 2023 after a failed business venture of his own.

Pan, who holds a degree in film editing, now works alongside his father, managing operations and driving septic tank trucks as part of the company’s services.

For his wedding, Pan and his bride, Li Yaqing, used nine thoroughly cleaned and decorated septic tank trucks as their ceremonial convoy. The vehicles were adorned with red decorations and flower ornaments, with two belonging to the company and the rest borrowed from industry peers.

Li reportedly supported the idea when Pan first suggested it, describing it as a unique and meaningful gesture that reflected his profession and hard work.

While Pan’s parents were initially hesitant due to the nature of the job, they eventually gave their approval after persuasion from the couple.

Pan said he takes pride in his work despite its challenges, noting that the industry remains stable as long as sanitation services are needed. He also highlighted that the job provides him with a steady income of around 30,000 yuan (approximately US$4,300) per month.

He added that although the work is physically demanding, he considers the earnings respectable and the profession essential to everyday life.

The wedding footage quickly gained traction online, with many users praising Pan’s confidence and work ethic, while others questioned whether the stunt was appropriate for such a solemn occasion.

The event has since sparked broader discussion on social media about pride in one’s profession and the boundaries of unconventional wedding celebrations.
