A soldier in Kaohsiung, identified by the pseudonym “Ah Zhi,” has been sentenced to two years in prison, with the sentence suspended for five years, after a court found him guilty in a case involving sexual activity with a girl under the age of 14.
Court records stated that Ah Zhi and the girl, referred to as “Xiao Hua,” were in a romantic relationship prior to his enlistment in the military. The pair allegedly met on several occasions, with sexual activity taking place inside a vehicle over a span of around three months.
The case surfaced after the teenager reportedly shared details of her sexual experiences with schoolmates, which raised concerns among school staff and led to a police report. Authorities subsequently launched an investigation into the matter.
During the trial, Ah Zhi admitted to the charges and expressed remorse. The girl reportedly said the encounters were consensual and did not wish to pursue legal action. However, her father objected to any settlement and insisted that the case be handled through the courts.
In its ruling, the court noted that the defendant was aware of the victim’s age at the time of the incidents. Judges also considered his lack of prior criminal record, his enlistment as a professional soldier, and his conduct in service when determining the sentence.
The court ultimately imposed a two-year prison term, suspended for five years, along with probation supervision. He was also ordered to pay NT$500,000 to the public treasury within two years and attend two legal education sessions.
Strict probation conditions were also set, including a prohibition on any form of contact or harassment toward the victim. Any breach of these conditions could result in the suspension being revoked and the prison sentence enforced.
