A total of 16 motorcyclists, including a Form Four student, were detained during a special integrated motorcycle operation conducted at Jalan Paya Luboh, Tangga Batu, in the early hours of the morning.
Melaka Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief, Superintendent Muhammad Zaki Ramat, said the individuals were apprehended for performing dangerous riding stunts such as speeding, weaving through traffic, and cutting between vehicles. The operation took place between 2am and 5am.
He emphasised that the group’s reckless behaviour posed serious risks not only to themselves but also to other road users, highlighting ongoing concerns over public safety on Malaysian roads. Such coordinated acts, often associated with illegal street racing culture, continue to draw firm enforcement action from authorities.
The operation involved a combined force of seven officers and 43 personnel from JSPT Melaka, along with intelligence and operations units from Bukit Aman, as well as nine officers from the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Melaka. It was carried out as part of a broader effort to curb illegal street racing and dangerous riding activities.
All 16 local men, aged between 16 and 30, are currently being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous riding.
During the operation, authorities inspected 178 vehicles and seized 87 motorcycles for further investigation. A total of 237 summonses were issued for various traffic offences, with the highest number linked to registration plate violations (53 cases), followed by issues involving side mirrors (31), exhaust modifications (25), illegal accessories (22), and riding without a valid licence (20).
In addition, JPJ Melaka issued 274 P22 notices, alongside 21 actions under Section 59(2) and 21 vehicle inspection orders under Section 61 of the same act.
Muhammad Zaki stressed that the operation reflects the police’s continued commitment to tackling illegal street racing and any violations that threaten public order and road safety. He also urged youths to steer clear of such dangerous activities, while reminding parents to remain vigilant and monitor their children to prevent involvement in unlawful road behaviour.
