A man who went viral for driving against traffic on Jalan Klang Lama in Kuala Lumpur has been arrested after voluntarily surrendering himself at the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) office.
Kuala Lumpur JSPT chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the 32-year-old suspect arrived at the department’s office at about 8.35pm yesterday before he was taken into custody.
He said police had earlier attempted to locate the man by checking several addresses, including his family home, but were unsuccessful.
Preliminary investigations found that the driver had entered the wrong route while attempting to head towards Mid Valley, leading to the dangerous wrong-way driving incident.
Mohd Zamzuri added that initial breathalyser and urine tests showed the suspect was negative for alcohol and drugs.
The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving.
He also confirmed that the suspect is expected to be charged at the Jalan Duta Court at 9am today.
The incident previously went viral on social media, with footage showing the vehicle travelling against traffic for around 500 metres from the Jalan Klang Lama/Jalan Sepadu junction to the Jalan Klang Lama/Jalan Kuchai Lama junction at about 9.44am.
