An e-hailing driver has pleaded guilty at the Traffic Magistrate’s Court in Kuala Lumpur for driving against traffic along Jalan Klang Lama, an incident that recently went viral on social media.
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the court sentenced the man to three days’ imprisonment starting from the date of conviction, along with a RM6,000 fine. Failure to pay the fine would result in an additional six months’ jail, as well as a five-year disqualification from holding a driving licence.
“The individual pleaded guilty and has paid the fine,” he said in a brief statement.
It was previously reported that the 32-year-old suspect had been arrested after surrendering himself at the Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) office at around 8.35pm.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect was charged under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 at the Jalan Duta Court.
The case gained public attention after a 40-second video surfaced online, showing a car driving against traffic, which was recorded by a road user before going viral on social media.
