Man Killed In Buntong Parang Attack As Police Launch Murder Probe

A 25-year-old man was killed after suffering severe slash wounds in what police believe was a murder incident in Buntong, Ipoh, late last night.

Ipoh district police chief Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Najib Hamzah said authorities first received information about a fight at about 11.10pm before a team was deployed to the scene.

He said initial investigations found the victim lying in the middle of the road with serious injuries believed to have been caused by a sharp weapon.

“Preliminary findings show the victim had been at a rented car premises with his friends before a group of suspects arrived and launched an attack using machetes,” he said in a statement.

Several of the victim’s friends were also injured in the incident and are currently receiving treatment at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB), he added.

Police also detained a 23-year-old man who works as a parking attendant at the car rental site to assist investigations, while efforts are ongoing to track down other suspects involved.

The case is being investigated under Sections 302, 326 and 148 of the Penal Code for murder, causing grievous hurt, and rioting.

Muhammad Najib said the victim was unemployed but often visited the location to assist at the car rental premises.

He urged members of the public with any information related to the case to come forward and assist investigations by contacting the nearest police station or the Ipoh district police headquarters.
