The Prisons Department has confirmed that a Pakistani remand detainee escaped from police custody after court proceedings at the Shah Alam Court yesterday.
The incident, which occurred at around 8pm, took place within the compound of Sungai Buloh Prison during the process of transferring detainees.
In a statement, the department said it is working closely with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to track down and recapture the individual.
Authorities added that a search operation is currently being intensified, involving multiple security agencies to ensure the detainee is apprehended as soon as possible.
“All relevant agencies have been alerted and efforts to locate the detainee have been stepped up,” the statement said.
The Prisons Department also stressed its commitment to maintaining the highest level of safety for both detainees and the public.
It added that strict action will be taken against any party found to have breached procedures in connection with the incident, with further investigations currently underway.
Earlier reports stated that police are actively pursuing the escaped remand prisoner following the incident at Sungai Buloh Prison.
