An 89-year-old woman has gone viral after a dramatic incident in which she was seen climbing down the exterior of a residential building from the 27th floor to the 21st floor in a desperate attempt to seek help.

The alarming situation was first noticed by a cleaner and a security guard, who heard faint cries for assistance coming from outside the building. They soon discovered the elderly woman clinging onto metal supports used for air-conditioning units along the building façade.

Realising the danger, both immediately alerted the police while urging her to remain still until help arrived. However, the woman continued carefully descending the structure despite emergency responders being on their way.

In an exhausted state, she eventually stopped at the 21st floor, approximately 50 metres above ground level. Fire and rescue personnel who arrived at the scene carried out the rescue operation from inside the building due to the high risk of attempting an exterior climb.

Rescuers secured the woman with safety ropes and removed part of the protective metal grille, allowing her to rest on an air-conditioning platform. She was also given a jacket and drinking water.

Further investigations revealed that the elderly woman lived alone on the 27th floor. She was believed to have accidentally locked herself inside her bedroom, while her mobile phone was left in the living room.

In a bid to get help, she reportedly attempted a dangerous escape through the window, which led to the frightening ordeal.

The incident has since drawn widespread attention online, with many praising her courage while also highlighting concerns over the safety of elderly individuals living alone in high-rise residences.
