A 22-year-old private university student has been arrested after allegedly injuring a woman in a stabbing incident at an apartment in Bandar Sunsuria, Sepang.
Sepang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Norhizam Bahaman said the local suspect was detained on the same day of the incident after reportedly attacking the 34-year-old victim with a sharp object inside a rented unit.
He said preliminary investigations showed that the suspect had only recently rented a room in the apartment through an accommodation application and had no prior relationship with the victim.
The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt with dangerous weapons, he added.
Authorities confirmed that the victim is currently in critical but stable condition and is receiving treatment at hospital.
Norhizam said police have recorded statements from 10 individuals so far, while drug screening on the suspect returned negative results and no prior criminal record was found.
The suspect has been remanded for seven days until 16 April to assist investigations, with further inquiries ongoing.
Members of the public with information on the case are urged to contact investigating officer Inspector Muhammad Azroy Amran or report to the nearest police station.
Police have also advised the public against spreading unverified information or speculation that could disrupt investigations or cause public alarm.
