The Yang di-Pertuan Muda of Terengganu, Tengku Muhammad Ismail ibni Al-Wathiqu Billah Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, has been officially proclaimed as the Acting Ruler of the state, effective April 15.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Terengganu Royal Council Secretary Datuk Azmal Azaddin confirmed that the appointment received the consent of Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin. The proclamation ceremony was successfully held at Istana Terengganu in Kuala Lumpur.
The decision comes as the Sultan will be taking a temporary rest from all official duties and engagements, following medical advice. The move reflects the palace’s commitment to ensuring continuity in the administration of the state during this period.
As a result of the development, the 64th birthday celebration of the Sultan of Terengganu, which was scheduled to take place on April 26, 2026, has been postponed.
The postponement also affects all related ceremonies, official events, and programmes connected to the celebration. Authorities added that a new date for these events will be announced at a later time.
