A customer has alleged that an MR DIY outlet was abruptly closed while shoppers were still inside, raising concerns over safety and customer handling procedures.
In a social media post that has gone viral, the customer claimed that the store lights were switched off and the doors locked at around 9.45pm without any prior notice. She said there was no announcement or check to ensure that all customers had left the premises before the closure.
The complainant added that she immediately contacted her husband to inform staff downstairs about the situation. According to her, he later arrived at the scene but did not receive any apology from store personnel.
She also expressed concern over what could have happened if she had not brought a mobile phone, suggesting that customers — including children — could have been trapped inside until the following day if assistance was not available.
The post further claimed that she has since emailed MR DIY’s head office to raise the issue and seek clarification on the incident.
The allegation has sparked discussion online, with users debating store operating procedures and the importance of ensuring customer safety before closing retail premises.
