Man Arrested After Allegedly Groping Journalist During Songkran Festival Coverage

Date:

Police have arrested a man accused of sexually harassing a female journalist during Songkran celebrations along Rama 4 Road on Sunday afternoon.

The suspect, identified as Methasit (surname withheld), was detained at around 4.30pm on April 13 by officers from Pathumwan Police Station following the alleged incident.

Authorities said the man is believed to have touched the journalist on her left buttock while she was reporting live on the water festival in the busy area.

The journalist reportedly said she was walking along the road while typing updates on her phone when she felt the contact. She then confronted the man and initially spoke to him in English before switching to Thai after learning he was a Bangkok resident.

She later showed her press identification card to confirm her role, after which the suspect allegedly became agitated and attempted to assault her.

A traffic police assistant stationed nearby reportedly heard the commotion and intervened, helping to detain the suspect before handing him over to authorities.

Methasit has been charged with committing an obscene act but has denied the allegations. Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage and gathering further evidence to support the investigation.
