A 53-year-old trader has been sentenced to 30 years in prison and 18 strokes of the cane after pleading guilty to six counts of raping his teenage stepdaughter.
The Sessions Court handed down the sentence after Judge Zulkpli Abdullah accepted the accused’s guilty plea.
Court proceedings showed that the first three offences involved the victim, who was 13 years and seven months old at the time. The incidents occurred inside a bedroom at a house in Tanah Merah between 12am and 4am on March 31, November 13 and December 5, 2025.
For the remaining three charges, the accused committed similar offences against the same victim when she was 14 years old at the same location, at about 1am on March 27, 28 and 30, 2026.
All charges were framed under Section 376B(1) of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of between 10 and 30 years and whipping upon conviction.
The court ordered the man to serve 10 years’ imprisonment and six strokes of the cane for each of the first three charges, while the remaining sentences were ordered to run concurrently from April 6, the date of his arrest.
Deputy public prosecutor Siti Aiysha Na’ilah Harizan led the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented.
