A 13-year-old student injured after being struck by a sports utility vehicle (SUV) driven by a teacher in front of a school surau at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tanjong Mas, Kelantan, is set to undergo minor surgery and psychological treatment.
Kelantan Health Department (JKNK) director Datuk Mohd Azman Yacob said the victim, identified as Zara Aftar Zamzuri, is suffering from trauma following the incident, which also resulted in the loss of her close friend.
He added that Zara sustained injuries to her face and a torn earlobe, requiring plastic surgery in the near future.
Mohd Azman said the victim’s condition is being closely monitored by medical specialists at Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II (HRPZ II) in Kota Bharu, with senior surgeons assigned to oversee her treatment.
He also revealed that the teenager has reportedly asked her family not to discuss details of the incident or mention the name of her late friend.
Authorities said the recovery process is expected to take at least two weeks, while psychological support will be provided due to the emotional trauma suffered.
Medical teams have been instructed to ensure comprehensive care is given to address both the physical injuries and psychological impact of the incident.
