Fifteen power banks were surrendered by outbound travellers at Singapore’s Changi Airport on April 15, the first day a new rule limiting passengers to a maximum of two devices came into force.
According to the Changi Airport Group, the items were handed over during security screening conducted between midnight and 3pm, covering around 275 flights. The checks were carried out at boarding gate entrances across Terminals 1, 2 and 3, as well as after immigration in Terminal 4.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) had earlier announced on April 6 that passengers carrying more than two power banks would be required to dispose of excess units before boarding, starting April 15.
The regulation follows updated guidelines from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which apply to all rechargeable battery packs, including those up to 100 watt-hour (Wh) and those between 100Wh and 160Wh, the latter requiring prior approval.
Previously, travellers were allowed to carry up to 20 power banks as long as each device did not exceed 100Wh, while the limit for higher-capacity units remained at two with approval requirements unchanged.
