A 25-year-old man’s attempt to escape a police roadblock ended in failure after he, along with his younger sister and girlfriend, was arrested for obstructing public servants from carrying out their duties in Melaka.
Melaka Tengah District Police Chief ACP Christoper Patit said the incident occurred at about 5.10am on Sunday along Jalan Limbongan when a Toyota Avanza driver refused to stop at a police checkpoint.
Instead of complying with instructions, the driver allegedly sped off towards Lebuh AMJ Cheng heading to Paya Rumput before being intercepted and detained at Taman Belimbing Setia in Durian Tunggal, Alor Gajah after a police pursuit.
Investigations revealed that there were three occupants in the vehicle — the driver, his 17-year-old girlfriend, and his 21-year-old sister. No illegal items were found inside the vehicle during a search.
All three suspects later tested positive for methamphetamine following urine screening tests conducted by police.
Authorities also revealed that the driver admitted he did not possess a Class D driving licence and had allegedly consumed syabu prior to the incident. The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant from performing duties.
Police confirmed that the male suspect has been remanded for four days from April 19 to 22, while the two female suspects have been remanded for two days until April 20 to assist investigations. The vehicle involved has also been seized as part of the probe.
