Mystery Suitcase In Thai Village Turns Out To Contain Dead Cat

Date:

A case involving a mysterious suitcase dumped in a village in Pathum Thani province, Thailand, initially sparked suspicion of animal cruelty before investigations confirmed that the remains inside were those of a cat that had died naturally.

Authorities were alerted after a foul smell and yellowish liquid were reported coming from a suitcase left near a house in Moo 4, Khlong Sam Subdistrict, Khlong Luang District. Concerned parties, including the Watchdog Foundation, lodged a report with Khlong Luang Police Station requesting an investigation into whether an animal had been harmed.

Police said the suitcase had been dumped from a motorised tricycle, and three individuals were initially identified as being involved. Further inquiries revealed they were employees of a nearby watermelon vendor, while the warehouse owner was later called in for questioning.

Initial fears that the bag contained a decapitated dog were later dismissed. Investigators confirmed the carcass was in fact a cat, which had already been dead for around two days and was in an advanced state of decomposition.

According to the warehouse owner, his son discovered the animal under a banana tree near the property after noticing a strong odour. Believing the cat to be already dead, and due to its decomposed condition, the son reportedly used a stick to move the body before placing it in an old suitcase intended for disposal.

The suitcase was then sealed and thrown into a general waste bin. The unusual appearance of the remains, which led to initial claims of a missing head, was explained by investigators as a visual effect caused by decomposition and the way the body had collapsed inside the bag.

Police have stated that no criminal offence has been established, as there is no evidence of animal cruelty. The cat is believed to have died of natural causes, and its disposal in this manner does not violate any laws under current findings.
