The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) is encouraging taxpayers in Malaysia to regularly update their personal and financial information throughout the year, instead of only during the annual tax filing period.
Senior revenue executive Azaharuddin Mohd Ali said public awareness of tax responsibilities typically increases only when the e-Filing season begins, with many taxpayers logging into the MyTax portal solely to submit their returns.
He stressed that maintaining accurate and up-to-date records is essential, including details such as income, tax reliefs and overall tax status, to ensure compliance and avoid discrepancies.
“Tax compliance goes beyond payment,” Azaharuddin said during an appearance on Bernama Radio, adding that it also involves honest income reporting, proper documentation, and a clear understanding of eligible deductions and reliefs.
He also cautioned that failure to comply with tax requirements could result in enforcement action. The public, he added, is strongly encouraged to make use of digital services such as the MyTax platform for easier management of their tax matters.
According to him, the system not only simplifies e-Filing, but also allows users to review personal information, update profiles, and receive important notifications in real time.
Azaharuddin further highlighted that tax revenue plays a crucial role in supporting national development, including funding for infrastructure, education, and healthcare initiatives that benefit the wider population.
