The Selangor Veterinary Services Department (DVS) is actively tracking down a man suspected of abusing a dog at a residence in Seri Kembangan, following the circulation of a viral video on social media.
In a statement, the department confirmed that it had received public complaints regarding the incident and that animal welfare officers have already been deployed to investigate the case.
Authorities said checks were conducted on Wednesday involving a brown male poodle believed to be the victim in the incident. The case is currently being investigated under Section 29(1) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015.
DVS added that efforts to locate the suspect are still ongoing and urged members of the public with relevant information to assist investigations by contacting the department or senior investigating officer Shuaib Anuar at 013-4321512.
The video, dated April 22, shows a man allegedly carrying the poodle before forcefully throwing it against a wall. It is understood that the animal sustained injuries to its front right leg.
Earlier reports also indicated that animal rescuers had called for immediate action against the suspect, stating that multiple police reports and complaints had already been lodged.
In a separate clip dated April 14, the same dog was seen whimpering and limping while fleeing from a man before hiding under a table inside a house, further raising concern among animal welfare groups.
