Nga Kor Ming Urges Village Heads To Be Government’s Eyes And Ears

Date:

Village heads of Chinese new villages have been urged to remain actively engaged on the ground and serve as the government’s “eyes and ears” in addressing issues faced by local communities.

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said the role of a village head goes beyond recognition, describing it as a significant responsibility that requires strong commitment in delivering government policies and safeguarding public welfare.

“Village heads must always be present in the community while acting as a bridge between the government and the people. They should be approachable leaders who continuously seek solutions to challenges faced by their respective communities,” he said.

Nga made the remarks after officiating the presentation of appointment letters to chairpersons of the Village Development and Security Committees (JPKK) for Chinese new villages in Perak on Friday.

A total of 160 village heads from across the state received their appointment letters at the event, which was also attended by Perak state executive councillor for domestic trade, consumer affairs and Chinese new villages, Woo Kah Leong.

Elaborating further, Nga said the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) remains committed to strengthening development across all 613 Chinese new villages nationwide through four key focus areas.

These include upgrading infrastructure, beautification programmes, eco-tourism development, and strengthening local economies through the “Kampung Good” initiative.

“All these efforts require the cooperation of village heads,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nga added that 10 high-performing village heads in Perak will be selected for special recognition, including incentives, as encouragement for their continued dedication and service.

He said the ministry would work with the state government to ensure those who have shown strong commitment and contributions to their communities receive due acknowledgement.
