All 14 Negeri Sembilan state assemblymen (ADUN) who previously withdrew support for Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun have agreed to remain within the framework of the Unity Government in the state.
UMNO President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the decision was reached following a meeting with the group on Thursday, where all parties were given the opportunity to clarify the actual context behind their earlier move, which had sparked widespread political speculation.
He explained that while the withdrawal of support still stands, it should not be misconstrued as an attempt to topple the existing administration. “The withdrawal happened, but we are still together within the Unity Government in Negeri Sembilan,” he said.
Ahmad Zahid Hamidi made the remarks after officiating the Forum on Strengthening Trusted Access Across Malaysia’s Digital Ecosystem and the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony for MyDigital ID. He stressed that the actions of the 14 assemblymen must be reassessed to avoid misinterpretation.
According to him, discussions with the assemblymen revealed that they had no intention of retracting their stance, but rather aimed to correct public perception. He emphasised that the move was not meant to engineer a “backdoor government” or destabilise the state leadership, but to ensure that institutional functions operate effectively.
He added that Malaysia is currently facing global economic challenges, making unity and cooperation essential. “What the Prime Minister wants is political stability so that we can collectively face the global crisis for the benefit of the people,” he said.
Previously, reports stated that Barisan Nasional Negeri Sembilan chairman Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias announced that all 14 UMNO-BN assemblymen had unanimously lost confidence and withdrawn support from the state government led by Aminuddin.
