Man Lives with Knife in Chest for 8 Years Without Knowing

Date:

A 44-year-old man in Tanzania made a shocking discovery when seeking medical attention for pain and pus from his right nipple: doctors found a knife lodged in his chest, where it had remained for an astonishing eight years.

According to The Sun, the patient visited Muhimbili National Hospital complaining of persistent discharge beneath his right nipple. Surprisingly, he reported no chest pain, shortness of breath, cough, or fever, and his vital signs were normal, leaving the medical team baffled.

During a detailed consultation, the man revealed that years earlier, he had been attacked with a knife during a violent altercation, sustaining injuries to his face, back, chest, and abdomen. He had received medical treatment at the time and lived normally until noticing unusual discharge from his nipple.

A chest X-ray revealed the shocking truth: a knife was embedded in his chest cavity, having entered near his right shoulder blade while miraculously avoiding all vital organs.

Surgeons quickly scheduled an operation, carefully removing the blade and clearing the pus caused by tissue necrosis. The patient was monitored in the ICU for 24 hours post-surgery before being transferred to a general ward for 10 days of observation.

The case, published last month in Surgical Case Reports, described the rare occurrence and noted that the patient recovered well, with follow-up examinations showing no complications.
