The body of an unidentified man was discovered lodged in a pile of rubbish along the banks of Sungai Jebong on Sunday evening, prompting a response from emergency services.
The grim discovery was made by members of the public, who alerted the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department at approximately 6.45pm. Firefighters from the Taiping Fire and Rescue Station were then dispatched to the scene.
Perak JBPM Operations Division assistant director, Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, said upon arrival, police informed the rescue team that the victim’s body was stuck among debris at the riverbank.
“The operations commander assessed the situation before instructing personnel to descend to the riverbank to retrieve the body,” he said in a statement, adding that the victim was successfully brought up and handed over to the police for further action.
Preliminary checks by authorities found no identification documents on the deceased, leaving his identity unknown at this stage. Such cases often require further forensic investigation to determine both identity and cause of death.
The operation, which involved nine personnel, was concluded fully by 7.30pm.
