Police have refuted viral claims alleging that the father of a suspect remanded over the brutal murder of a 19-year-old girl with 61 stab wounds is a senior-ranking police officer.
Kota Bharu District Police Chief, Mohd. Azmir Damiri, dismissed the allegations as false and urged the public not to spread unverified information circulating on social media.
“This claim is not true. This is the problem when people believe information that has not been issued by the police. At times, netizens seem to be conducting investigations beyond the police,” he said when contacted.
The statement comes after a Facebook post went viral suggesting that the suspect had “high-level connections,” including claims that the suspect’s father holds a senior position within the police force. Authorities stressed that such allegations are baseless and could mislead the public.
The case involves the discovery of the body of a 19-year-old woman in Kampung Simah, Ketereh, on Saturday, with post-mortem examinations revealing 61 stab wounds across her body, from face to legs. Most of the injuries were concentrated on the right side of the victim’s body.
Kelantan Police Chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat previously confirmed the findings, stating that the injuries were identified during forensic examinations conducted on the victim.
Police have urged the public to rely only on official statements and to avoid spreading speculation that may interfere with ongoing investigations into the case.
