Man Remanded After 20km Police Chase In Penang Damages 12 Vehicles

A 29-year-old man has been remanded following a police chase across Penang that allegedly resulted in damage to 12 vehicles over a 20-kilometre pursuit last Thursday.

According to Harian Metro, Magistrate Shyahirah Abdul Salim granted the remand order until May 7 under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The unemployed suspect was arrested at a house in Gelugor at about 8.30pm on Friday.

Police said the incident began when officers on mobile patrol spotted a vehicle behaving suspiciously along Jalan Tanjung Bungah at around 9pm. When instructed to stop, the driver allegedly sped off, prompting a chase that stretched from Jalan Tanjung Bungah to Bayan Baru.

During the pursuit, which covered approximately 20km, the suspect’s vehicle is believed to have collided with 12 other vehicles, causing widespread damage along the route.

Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail previously confirmed that 12 police reports had been lodged by affected motorists following the incident.

Videos of the dramatic chase, including a 43-second clip, have since gone viral on social media, drawing public attention to the case as investigations continue.
