Google Rolls Out Gemini AI Upgrade To Cars With Google Built-In Systems

Date:

Google has announced a major upgrade to vehicles equipped with its “Google built-in” system, introducing its Gemini AI assistant to replace the current Google Assistant in an effort to deliver a more advanced in-car experience.

The rollout will bring Gemini into both new and existing vehicles through a software update, allowing drivers to interact with their cars using more natural and conversational voice commands, rather than rigid instructions.

According to Google, the upgrade will enable users to access a wider range of features, including real-time journey updates, vehicle-specific information such as battery levels in electric cars, and assistance with messaging, calendar tasks and smart home controls.

The company said the update will first launch in English in the United States before gradually expanding to other regions and languages in the coming months.

Google senior product manager Alankar Agnihotri said the move continues the company’s promise that vehicles using its system will “get better over time” through ongoing software improvements.

Automaker General Motors has already confirmed that Gemini will be introduced in around four million model year 2022 and newer vehicles, including brands such as Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick and GMC, signalling wider industry adoption of the technology.

Google added that future updates could allow drivers to safely access personal information from apps such as Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Home, further integrating the ecosystem into the driving experience.

The upgrade is part of Google’s broader push to embed artificial intelligence more deeply into everyday devices, with Gemini expected to become a key feature across its services and platforms.
