28-year-Old Police Officer Dies In Crash Before Wedding, Family Holds Posthumous Marriage Ceremony

Date:

A 28-year-old female police officer from Tainan has died in a tragic traffic accident involving multiple vehicles, with her sudden passing leaving a planned wedding in ruins and a grieving fiancé unable to cope with the loss.

The officer, identified as Zheng Yong-xin, was killed after being involved in a collision while off duty. She reportedly lost control after being struck by a female university student’s vehicle, before falling onto the road and being run over by a passing bus. Authorities confirmed she sustained fatal head injuries and died at the scene.

The incident has shocked both the public and the law enforcement community, highlighting once again the unpredictable and devastating nature of road accidents. Even routine travel can turn fatal within seconds, especially when multiple vehicles are involved and visibility or reaction time is limited.

Zheng, aged 28, had a background in dance and graduated from the Department of Dance at National Taiwan University of Arts before choosing a career in policing. Colleagues described her as disciplined, warm-hearted and dependable, while her family remembered her as a devoted daughter with a bright future ahead.

She had been in a relationship with a fellow police officer, and the couple had already planned to marry next year. Following the tragedy, her fiancé was reportedly overcome with grief at the funeral home, repeatedly expressing that she would always be his wife in his heart.

In a deeply emotional development, both families agreed to proceed with a posthumous marriage arrangement. The decision reflects cultural traditions and shared wishes to symbolically fulfil the couple’s planned union, despite the bride never reaching her wedding day.

Her funeral is scheduled to take place on May 5, with her fiancé listed as her husband-to-be in the obituary. Family members have expressed heartbreak over the short-lived bond, saying they had already accepted her as part of the family and never expected such an abrupt and painful separation.
