Borneo International Marathon 2026 was marred by a hit-and-run incident involving a race participant and a RELA officer during the event held yesterday.
In a statement, the Kinabalu Running Club said both injured individuals received immediate medical attention from the event’s emergency response team before being transported to hospital for further treatment and observation.
The organisers confirmed that the families of the victims have been contacted, adding that they are closely monitoring the condition of those affected while providing necessary support.
The statement also said the incident has been reported to police, with authorities now conducting further investigations into the case. The organisers added that they will fully cooperate with the authorities throughout the probe.
They stressed that the safety of runners, volunteers, officials and all personnel remains the top priority in the planning and execution of the marathon.
Members of the public and road users were also reminded to respect road closures and safety measures implemented during the event, especially for the protection of participants and staff.
The Kinabalu Running Club expressed appreciation to medical teams, enforcement officers, volunteers and members of the public who responded swiftly to assist at the scene.
Kota Kinabalu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Kasim Muda confirmed that a report has been lodged, and investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the incident and identify those involved.
