A three-vehicle collision at Kilometre 28 of the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) near Kuala Lumpur on Sunday night is believed to have been caused by a car that skidded and came to a stop sideways across the right lane.
The crash, which occurred at about 11pm, involved a Proton Inspira, a Proton Wira and a Toyota Hilux.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the accident happened when a Proton Wira driven by an Indonesian man failed to avoid a stationary vehicle and crashed into the Proton Inspira, which had stopped in the right lane.
Preliminary investigations found that the Proton Inspira, driven by a 26-year-old local man, had earlier skidded and ended up stationary across the right lane towards the Duta Toll direction.
The impact caused the Proton Inspira to move into an adjacent lane, where it was then struck by a Toyota Hilux driven by a 41-year-old local man.
Police said the Proton Inspira driver was later located and detained to assist investigations into the circumstances that led to the initial skid.
All drivers involved were reported to have escaped serious injuries, although the vehicles sustained significant damage.
The Toyota Hilux suffered damage to its rear bumper, reverse sensors, front bonnet, front bumper and water tank, authorities said.
