A 51-year-old motorcyclist was killed after his motorcycle crashed into a Perodua Myvi at Kilometre 158 of the Kuala Terengganu–Kuantan Road in an accident on Tuesday afternoon.
The victim, identified as Zulkarnain Rawi, from Kampung Chendor Baru, Kuantan, Pahang, was pronounced dead at the scene at about 4.20pm.
Kemaman district police chief Superintendent Mohd Razi Rosli said the victim, who worked as a lorry driver, was travelling from the town centre towards Chendor Baru when the crash occurred.
According to initial investigations, the accident happened when the victim’s KTM 250 Duke motorcycle collided with a Perodua Myvi driven by an elderly man.
“The motorcyclist was said to have proceeded through the junction when the traffic light was green but already blinking,” he said.
“At the same time, the Perodua Myvi exited the junction and the motorcyclist was unable to avoid the vehicle, resulting in a collision,” he added.
The victim suffered severe head and bodily injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene.
His body was later sent to the Forensic Unit of Kemaman Hospital for post-mortem examination.
The 78-year-old driver of the Perodua Myvi sustained minor injuries and is receiving treatment at the same hospital.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
