A 15-year-old boy is under investigation after allegedly running at high speed and deliberately knocking over a 25-year-old woman in a random street incident in China’s Jiangxi province, local authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred at around 2.44pm on May 9 near Hongcheng Road in Qingyunpu district, according to Chinese media reports. The victim, identified as Ms Chen, said she was waiting for a friend when she suddenly heard rapid footsteps approaching from behind before being violently struck and knocked to the ground.
She initially believed it was an accident caused by someone running too fast. However, bystanders reportedly questioned whether she knew the attacker, prompting her to realise the collision may have been intentional.
Ms Chen added that the suspect was seen fleeing the scene while removing his shirt as he ran away.
Police in Qingyunpu district later confirmed on May 11 that a 15-year-old suspect surnamed Zhang had been identified and is currently under investigation. A preliminary medical assessment found that the victim suffered knee injuries classified as minor.
Despite this, Ms Chen said she believes her condition is more serious than initially assessed and is seeking further medical checks. She also revealed she has been experiencing psychological distress, including recurring nightmares following the incident.
The victim has reportedly rejected any settlement or compensation offered by the suspect’s family, insisting she will pursue legal action.
She further claimed that the teenager may have been involved in similar incidents previously, alleging that another victim had come forward describing a prior encounter resulting in ligament injuries.
Legal experts cited in reports said that while the suspect could face charges of intentional assault, his age may lead to corrective education measures rather than detention, though civil claims for damages can still be pursued against him and his guardians.
