Two Men Hospitalized After Being Set on Fire, Suspect Arrested

Two people have been hospitalized following an arson attack at a pub in the Irish Street area of Armagh, Northern Ireland, police confirmed on Tuesday morning. The fire broke out around 8:55pm on Monday.

A 38-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder and arson with intent to endanger life, and he remains in police custody.

Officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland attended the scene alongside the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, who quickly extinguished the blaze. “Two people have been taken to hospital for treatment to their injuries,” a police spokesperson said, adding that the investigation is ongoing.

Newry and Armagh MP Dáire Hughes condemned the incident, calling it “frightening” for those nearby and commending the swift response of emergency services. “Police will remain in the area over the coming hours as their investigation continues. My thoughts are with anyone who may have been injured or impacted by this incident,” Hughes added.

Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
