A 24-year-old man was charged at the Magistrate’s Court here on Friday with two counts of murder linked to a fatal crash along Jalan Ampang earlier this month.
No plea was recorded from the accused, Danish Raman Kamar Kumaresan, after the charges were read before Magistrate Nurul Izzzah Hasan Basri.
Under the first charge, the accused is alleged to have caused the death of A. Doraisingam, 65, at around 5.30am on May 2 along Jalan Ampang, on the route from KLCC towards Ampang Point.
He was also charged with murdering A. Menagah, 56, at the same location and time under the second charge.
Both charges were framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
If convicted, the accused faces the mandatory death penalty or imprisonment ranging from 30 to 40 years, along with not fewer than 12 strokes of the cane should the death sentence not be imposed.
The case has drawn public attention due to the seriousness of the charges stemming from a road crash incident in one of Kuala Lumpur’s busy urban areas.
