The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Perak has taken action against a petrol station in Ayer Tawar following a viral complaint involving the refuelling of RON95 petrol into a foreign-registered vehicle.
Its director, Datuk Kamalludin Ismail, said immediate action was taken by the KPDN Manjung branch after receiving complaints regarding the incident.
According to him, preliminary investigations found that the incident took place at around 9pm on May 13.
“Investigations revealed that the RON95 petrol purchase was made by a local individual using the BUDI95 facility, with payment made via credit card at the counter, but the vehicle used was suspected to be carrying foreign registration plates.
“Transaction checks found that only part of the purchased fuel was successfully pumped before the refuelling process was completely stopped,” he said in a statement on Friday.
Kamalludin said CCTV footage from the petrol station had also been obtained and was currently being reviewed to assist further investigations.
He said action had been taken under Subregulation 3(2) of the Supply Control Regulations (Prohibition on Sale and Purchase of Controlled Goods) (RON95 Petrol) 2026 against the petrol station owner for allegedly breaching Subregulation 3(1), which prohibits the sale of RON95 petrol for foreign motor vehicles without written approval from the Controller.
He added that another investigation was also being conducted under Subregulation 4(3) of the same regulations against the vehicle owner for allegedly breaching Subregulation 4(1), which prohibits the purchase of RON95 petrol for foreign vehicles without written permission.
“All offences are being investigated under the Supply Control Act 1961. If convicted, individuals may face fines of up to RM1 million for a first offence and up to RM3 million or a maximum jail term of three years, or both, for subsequent offences.
“For companies, fines can reach RM2 million for a first offence and up to RM5 million for repeat offences,” he said.
