A married couple was killed after the Perodua Myvi they were travelling in was involved in a collision with a lorry at Parit Sembilan, Labu Kubong, heading towards Kampung Gajah early Saturday morning.
In the 5.55am incident, both victims, aged 32 and 33, were confirmed dead at the scene after they became trapped inside the vehicle.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department Operations Assistant Director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said emergency services received a distress call at 5.55am before firefighters from the Teluk Intan Fire and Rescue Station were deployed to the location.
He said the team arrived at the scene at 6.11am, approximately 13 kilometres from the station.
“Upon arrival, firefighters found that a Perodua Myvi had collided head-on with a one-ton bonded lorry carrying frozen chicken.
“Two occupants in the car, a husband and wife, were trapped and were confirmed dead by Health Ministry medical officers at the scene,” he said in a statement.
He added that two men in the lorry, the driver and a 37-year-old assistant, were not trapped and only sustained minor injuries.
A nine-man rescue team used a Fire and Rescue Tender (FRT) and Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit to carry out the operation.
Rescuers used hydraulic cutting tools to free the victims before their remains were handed over to police for further action.
The operation was brought under control at 7am and fully concluded at 8.18am.
