Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has lauded the dedication, sacrifice and service of teachers, describing them as the foundation in shaping national development, moral values and civilisation.
He said he personally experienced life as an educator when he helped establish Yayasan Anda Akademik in the early 1970s, where he encountered many young people from underprivileged backgrounds struggling with uncertainty about their future.
“That experience taught me that a teacher’s role goes beyond delivering knowledge. It is about building confidence, restoring dignity, and instilling hope and ambition in life,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Anwar added that in today’s increasingly complex world, the role of teachers has become even more critical in shaping a generation grounded in strong moral and spiritual values.
He stressed that without values and ethics, development risks becoming directionless and disconnected from humanity, despite technological or economic progress.
The Prime Minister also extended his appreciation and prayers for educators nationwide, wishing them continued strength, resilience and commitment in nurturing the younger generation towards a more progressive, prosperous and sustainable Malaysia.
